Times have changed! When this show aired, people smoked indoors. And a pipe no less, in the living room. Then the husband sticks the pipe into the pocket of his jacket! And the little boy sporting a handgun in a chest holster. Can you imagine any of that airing today, year 2024?
Where is the money? That's what this show is about.
This show aired in 1957, long before the Miranda Rights became mandatory (based on a court case in 1966). For the Accused embezzler to just confess the whole story to a detective (in their living room) would never fly today. Get a lawyer!
The same for the wife... spousal privilege, she doesn't need to talk to the Cop (although when she hears "Another woman", the wife probably wants the guy thrown into jail).
When the detective interrupts the visitation between husband and wife, that is also completely out of line. Where is your attorney?
And this "Julie" girlfriend. Wow, what a piece of work! Shows up at the jail in a fur coat, then asks Fred for more money. Not taking "No" for an answer, she tries to blackmail Molly, only to be overheard by the Detective. (The writers should have told us what happened to Julie, did she get jail time?).
Perhaps a bit tedious, and almost hard to believe that Molly the wife would stay with this two-timing embezzler. True love?
7 Stars for "Gold in an Old Tin Can"
Florida Fred.
