Incredible atmosphere
calgarywino2 July 2013
Right from the start this episode has a 'feel' about it that just grabs you. It opens with a single singing voice accompanied by soft, sustained chords, then soft dreamy shots of hazy barges and mountains, people running on a beach in the morning then jumps to reggae music as Da Vinci suffers a traffic accident. Next to forest shots and soothing beautiful bass notes and more soft chording as Shannon and Williams investigate a body in the woods. All throughout this episode there are shifts in texture, feel and mood, it has great tension, and anticipation, great acting as always. It is directed by Charles Martin Smith with brilliant camera work and with music crafted by Schaun Tozer who always seems to hit the mark in every project I've seen. Though low key, it was a good episode and for those of us that have seen other parts of the series the continued great acting and the running evolving plot threads all make for compelling watching. I appreciate that they felt is no need to create situations and solve everything within a single hour episode, what these guys have is atmosphere in spades and that keeps me coming back for more, thanks Mr. Haddock !
