Star Trek Out West
zsenorsock17 August 2006
A kind of dull episode about a wagon train heading for Salt Lake City. The male lead is DeForrest Kelley, who plays a southern gambler (in what appears to be his final TV appearance before taking on the role of Dr. McCoy). But the real star of this show is Sherry Jackson, formerly of "Make Room for Daddy". She plays Katherine Turner (no, not THE Katherine Turner, A Katherine Turner), the daughter of a old trail hand who has since gone to his reward. Jackson is on her way to Salt Lake City for what appears to be a prearranged marriage. But first she and the rest of the wagon train must survive continual attacks by Indians, whose attack plan seems to be to constantly take bullets in the back while riding around in endless circles. They cheap out a couple of times here, reusing a shot or two of Indians falling off their horses. The only memorable thing about this episode is the fact Jackson would soon guest star as Andrea on the "Star Trek" episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" and be reunited with her co-star from "Death Valley Days", Deforrest Kelley. If nothing else, Kelley in this episode shows why it was Captain Kirk and not Dr. McCoy who always ended up with the girls.
