ER veteran, Christopher Chulack, handles this eleventh season episode with the freshness of lovers' eyes. From a good script rises great performances and on the ball directing. Between letters read, thoughts shared and actions taken, the long-distance relation between Neela and Michael (which had been ignored for most of the season) takes a poetic and palpable form in the few exchanges that we are privy to.
The exquisite editing (including sound) is pivotal to this layered juxtaposition and we are in for an expedition (emotional and all) that will lead to the resolution in the following enjoyable episode. It is however the build-up in this one that arouses, allows, aspires and inspires. From two characters in search of themselves emerges a chemistry and empathy that reaches beyond them. It extends to the other characters and undoubtedly to the viewers.
