A solid episode.

Normally, when you watch police shows as well as "The F.B.I.", the agents and cops appear to be very capable. Here, however, in "Line of Fire", these folks seem really out to lunch and one crook manages to defeat them repeatedly. The first time is at the start of the show...when a lone gunman (Henry Silva) manages to shoot a guy surrounded by FBI agents. Few return fire...and none of their shots hit the guy even though he's about 20-30 feet away from them. Later, when this fugitive is stopped by two policemen, he dispatches both of them pretty quickly. Of course, one cop ends up shooting him...but long after the killer shoots them. This is all very surprising to watch...but probably closer to real life, as guns are NOT nearly as accurate as you normally see on TV.

Because the FBI agents seem completely inept, after the initial shooting, the mobster manages to take a nurse (Linda Day George) prisoner along with her car. And, they set off on a journey around Los Angeles looking for a place to hide....and she is naturally worried he will kill her to prevent any witnesses. Can the authorities find her in time?

As you'd expect, Henry Silva is very good as the killer. He's excellent in these mobster sorts of roles. And, overall it is a solid and enjoyable episode.
