Party at the Giobertis. Even some of his employees are invited and not to serve other guests. Every effort was made during the first season of this show to have the Giobertis come off as rich people without discernible snobbery or prejudice.

Angela's crazy daughter Emma (Margaret Ladd) shows up unexpectedly and keeps dropping hints that she knows more about the death of Chase's father, Angela's brother Jason Gioberti. Chase (Robert Foxworth) has been using his position on the local Board of Supervisors to dig deeper.

Cole (William Moses) attends with Melissa Agretti (Ana Alicia) but they quickly head for the Spring House (small guesthouse built by Jason Gioberti for his beloved niece Emma). Cole again struggles with trying to accept bad-girl Melissa's relationship terms. He wants exclusivity and she wants to be a shower-buddy for the San Francisco 49ers. She is waving so many red flags she should be a crossing-guard.

After the accidental (By this point in the series the viewer is getting an idea of how accident-prone people in Tuscany County are) death of his friend Bill (Michael Bowen) Cole begins to withdraw putting his romance with libidinous Melissa on hold. Cole has not been with that many women and doesn't necessarily know what the wrong kind is. Not that it would matter given the obsessive and possessive way he can be.

Angela Channing (Jane Wyman), tyrannical owner of Falcon Crest is still pushing her grandson Lance (Lorenzo Lamas) to court and marry Melissa, heir to the Agretti wine fortune.

In the doghouse over leaving Falcon Crest to work for his grandfather's newspaper in San Francisco Lance has returned with his tail between his legs. A very weak young man in suddenly an even more weakened position his resolve in resisting Angela's plans for he and Melissa may not hold out with continued threats of being disinherited.

Melissa discovers she is six weeks pregnant and is unsure who the father is. The one guy it couldn't be is Lance. Cole, the probable father, and she are having a tiff. What will happen? On this show, particularly later in the TV season, the worst case scenario is very much on the table.

Note: First screen appearance for Corrine Bohrer. Third screen appearance for Michael Bowen whose debut was on Knot's Landing.
