A bit sappy, but good endings
stones785 December 2014
After reading that a "monster" would be in this episode, I expected a bit more than I got, although William Smith's performance as said monster was commendable, even though he really just looked like an old man with balding white hair. Look for familiar faces in Lynda Day George and Ken Swofford in this segment, and while I thought the story could've added a few actual scares, it did end well, and was a bit sad. The other story stars Stuart Whitman, Diane Baker, and Jimmy Baio, who hasn't had much work since. Whitman, who has done 7 total episodes of Fantasy Island, does pretty well as a man who wants to be a cowboy, but there's a catch, especially when you see cars and motorcycles near a ranch. Look for a notable bad guy in Robert Tessier, who's as mean as it gets, but not too much here. I won't ruin the ending for you, but one of the characters wishes to remain on the island permanently, which Mr. Roarke grants, even though I wasn't aware that was an option, but it added a nice touch. Tattoo was once again absent, and there's a few scenes with Julie.

Mister Roark the Trickster
aramis-112-80488028 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Tough guy William Smith turns in a touching performance as the monster as Linda Day George plays a descendant of Baron Frankenstein determined to prove her famous ancestor wasn't nuts. If you like that "poor, misunderstood monster" sort of thing it's right down your alley.

In the other story, Stuart Whitman plays an insurance executive who wants to see the "real" west and play cowboy. But Mister Roarke sends him to work on a hardscrabble farm in the real modern west.

"Fantasy Island" had some good stories in its sixth season. This isn't one of them. Though "Julie" fans get a little extra.
