Crichton proposes to a princess

Warning: Spoilers
When Moya gets caught is a Peacekeeper security system the crew fears the worst but it turns out that it is protecting an independent Sebacean society. Initially they are told they can't land as they are about to hold a coronation; Rygel manages to persuade them though and everybody apart from Zhaan goes down to the planet. While there Crichton and Aeryn find them selves being approached by locals who want to check to see if they are compatible; Aeryn isn't interested but John doesn't seem to mind as the test involves putting a drop of liquid on ones tongue then kissing! Not being a Sebacean nobody is compatible; but he seems to enjoy the testing! That is until he gets a positive response after kissing the princess who is heir to the throne... she is compatible with him because her brother has had her DNA altered to make her incompatible with Sebaceans so he can ascent to the throne when she fails to marry a compatible man. He isn't too keen on the idea of getting married... until an old enemy turns up and he is given a choice; marry the princess or be handed over to Scorpius! Of course agreeing to marry her isn't without its dangers; even if he survives her brother's assassination attempts he will have to spend eighty cycles as a statue! Meanwhile Moya has left the system; she starburst away when Scorpius' command carrier was first spotted.

This was a good opening to a three part story; it contained plenty of peril, some decent laughs and had a good cliff-hanger ending. It also served to introduce us to the Scarrans; a slightly reptilian looking species that appear to be enemies of the Sebaceans; we also learn that Scorpius' father was a Scarran. After not seeing Scorpius it was good to see him return; he makes a good villain. Humorous moments include Aeryn kissing Rygel to avoid the constant attention of one of the locals and Crichton interrupting Chiana and D'Argo while they are having sex... twice! Not that they seemed too worried! While only a small part of the story the events on Moya weren't uninteresting; especially when they arrived in the area of space that was home to Moya's creators. After a decent start I look forward to seeing how this tree part story continues in the second instalment.
