Here we have the classic '50s Western. The good guys wear white, the bad guys wear black. Everybody is immaculate, as if they just put on new western gear that they picked up at Lord & Taylor's, and all the buildings and carriages look as if they had been built the day before. The Skipper, Alan Hale, Jr., plays a hammy bad guy and picks a fight here and there, throwing in a "Be quiet, Gilligan" look now and then. It's all good, clean fun, with dastardly deeds and "Home, Home on the Range" thrown in for good measure. Gene Autry of course saves the day, with Pat Buttram playing the Sancho Panza goofy sidekick. Not a bad introduction to the glories of the formula old-time Western, where all the inevitable misunderstandings are resolved in half an hour and everyone joins Gene in a sing-a-long to wrap things up.
