Spoofs trends in tv
ebertip18 October 2020
This 1957 episode spoofs the tv trend in westerns. Also spoofs Dragnet, private eye and game shows. Sid and Jackie get a mention, along with Don Wilson. The "Bill Masterson" character was "Bat Masterson" on tv's Wyatt Earp. The "gist" of the episode is to be true to your own feelings, rather than those imposed upon you. In the 1957-1958 tv season, Burns and Allen stayed with its identity, but lost the ratings count to the Western Restless Gun, running against it on NBC. Burns and Allen was replaced by The Texan, which beat Restless Gun in 1958-1959. CBS developed many Westerns in the 1950s.
