Double Trouble

Warning: Spoilers
"Addam's Family" writers Phil Leslie and Kevin Fowler contribute a pretty funny episode to the "Get Smart" cannon. Siegfried has gathered a "League of Imposters"--KAOS agents who are perfect doubles for CONTROL's top agents. He has replaced Agent 38 (Jerry Lewis regular Del Moore), agent 13 (Dave Ketchem) and his top impersonator is a agent named Johan who looks exactly like 86. Siegfried's plan is to use the Smart doppleganger to get a top secret formula from the Chief, kill the Chief and then put an impostor in there. However Max escapes capture and confronts his own double. A CONTROL board of review is assembled to decide which is the real Maxwell Smart.

The double thing may be a pretty well worn concept, but it works here thanks to the jokes (Siegfried has a hidden camera watching how max gets out of bed in the morning--allowing Adams to do some wonderful pratfalls) and performances by Adams, Koppel and Platt. Though a lot of behind the scenes personnel like Buck Henry left the show after season two, this one holds up in the best Smart tradition.

'I have a very distinctive and unique voice'!

This is a classically great episode. Of course any episodes with Siegfried elevate the episodes. And this one has two Max's and other agent doubles. So it means we get to see Don Adams and Bernie Kopell interact with each other even more than usual. Full of plenty of great scenes and lines and Max mannerisms - times two!

Especially funny when Max gets to meet himself for the first time.

I'm re watching this episode right now and for some reason I only had this as a 7. Maybe I marked it down for the cringy part towards the end when they were choosing who is the real Maxwell Smart but that's really funny as well!
