On the hunt for an arsonist.
Sleepin_Dragon12 January 2023
The Police are hunting down an arsonist, who's targeting derelict buildings, it becomes serious when a family die in one of the fires.

The third straight strong episode, I've been surprised by the quality of the series so far, but not just that, the variety, each story has been so very different.

There's something very nasty about arson, and Bishop's story is perfectly feasible, I love the way you get to see his mania and paranoia spiral out of control. George Cole is terrific here.

Some pretty good stock footage used here, it doesn't look too shabby, however...

Some of the effects look pretty bad, almost as though the backgrounds are out of proportion to the characters in focus. Scenes of Bishop on his bike look very dodgy, but it was 1964 I guess.

8/10.

The Firebug

The episode benefits from George Cole playing a disturbed arsonist called Bishop.

Bishop is burning down seemingly abandoned and condemned properties. He even calls the emergency services after he starts a fire.

His latest fire leaves several people dead as well as a policeman who rushed in to rescue some squatters.

Inspector Gideon senses a pattern to the arsonist. Pretty soon Bishop is in the frame.

Bishop is a loving family man who lost his own family to a fire.

A good episode of a man who has gone over the edge due to trauma. His landlady adores him but Bishop fails to see it. He is too lost in his grief.

There is some ropey blue screen work which looks rather poor.
