Eb only wants to wed where he can get a bargain
FlushingCaps5 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Eb and Darlene have set a wedding date-two weeks from "today." Eb is seeking a wedding deal and via Haney has found one at the Pixley Car Wash, where they will receive money and other things for having the wedding there.

Of course, when Eb tells Darlene about this "deal" she doesn't understand why they have to have "a deal." She makes it crystal clear that she wants to get married in a church. So Eb cancels the car wash and signs a contract for a better deal at the Pixley Emporium, where they will get all sorts of furniture and even an organ that not only plays music, but has sound effects such as a train, a bird, and the Battle of the Bulge.

This time we hear from Mr. Wheeler, who comes over to the farm, insults Oliver in several ways, rudely, but is sweet as pie to Lisa. He tells Oliver that if Eb won't get married in a church, the wedding is off.

The problem is that Eb signed a contract with the department store and according to Haney, who somehow is getting a percentage, will be liable for $150,000 for all the expenses the store has gone through to publicize this wedding. Of course, it would seem to be an unenforceable contract since Darlene didn't sign it-without two parties, how can they insist the wedding take place?

But there's a way out. Haney says the contract doesn't specify who gets married, as long as it's a man and a woman. Of course, pre-21st Century, nobody ever thought a wedding should be between any two people other than a man and a woman. A re-make of this episode today would surely see a different line there.

So Oliver and Lisa will help out Eb by having a sham wedding ceremony, with Sam Drucker serving as Justice of the Peace. The whole thing is a big commercial for the store, with an announcer telling all about the organ, clothes and all.

Even though Eb was dumb as a doorknob in this one, the episode was overall reasonably funny. The funniest scenes were at the wedding whenever certain words were used, the organist pushed one of the sound effects buttons, such as when the announcer mentioned the train on Lisa's dress, she hit the locomotive button. I give it a 7.
