After his success on Friday Live on Channel 4 with characters such as Loadsamoney and Stavros the Greek kebab shop owner.

Harry Enfield moved to BBC2 with a whole new cast of characters aided by Paul Whitehouse. They had not been road tested in any other shows.

It is a sketch show format and Harry Enfield even managed to squeeze in some topical humour fir the time.

The episode starts with the caustic duo the Old Gits. Inspired by Dick Emery's First World War veteran Lampwick. They decide to upset their neighbour whose husband has died.

Tim Nice-But-Dim goes to an art gallery. Where he meets a journalist who is about to cover the Gulf War. Tim is not aware what is going on in the Middle East, he only works in the Foreign Office.

Other characters who quickly became favourites were the Brookside inspired The Scousers who always argue. Kathy Burke joins Harry as Waynetta Slob in the Slobs. She is not happy that Wayne has got him a brown car for her birthday.

It ends with the irritating father in law who disturbs his son in law's decorating with the words 'You don't wanna do that!'

This was a good funny opener. It was better than In expected. Heey managed to get a new wave of catchphrases. The misfire were the The Palace of Righteous Justice who I completely forgot about.
