Ed Nelson and Sheree North
kevinolzak14 July 2010
Caine meets a gambler, Jim Gallagher (Fred Beir), battered from a robbery resulting from a good night at the card table. Impressed by Jim's zest for life, Caine accompanies him to the home he shares with his wife Noreen (Sheree North), who is weary of his many losses. Regarding Caine as his good luck charm, Jim starts out with $20 the following day, earning $2500 by evening, which he gives to Caine to safeguard for Noreen. The same two ruffians who robbed Jim try to do the same to Caine, and Jim comes to the rescue, shot and killed by a third man who reacts to seeing the gambler's gun in the dark. Now a widow, Noreen is comforted by Sheriff Walter Raha (Ed Nelson), with whom she had been having a secret affair, assured that he will do whatever he can to catch her husband's killers and recover the winnings that Caine had hidden from them. Wondering about whom she can trust, Caine says "do you, not trusting, hurt more?" Appearing unbilled in the saloon is Angelo Rossitto, frequent co-star of Bela Lugosi.
