This episode is one of the best in the Laramie series. It begins with John Smith
getting shot while trailing some outlaws. The shooter Jan Merlin helps himself to Slim Sherman's horse leaving Slim to die of blood loss or exposure
whatever comes first.
When Smith doesn't report back to the posse everyone is concerned, but Robert Fuller is panicking. When he catches Jan Merlin he's ready to beat it out of him.
Merlin is a real slimeball. He'll only tell if he's released. You take it from there. All I know is I wouldn't want Jess Harper on my case if Slim Sherman dies.
Merlin in his younger days played a lot of punk villains, but I don't think he was ever more loathsome than here. A trial to all most especially to his sister Phyllis Avery who also has some good scenes, especially with Robert Fuller and Jan Merlin.
The episode also gives Spring Byington a chance to shine. It's a good thing that Sherman station has her as a housekeeper with her Civil War nurse training.
This episode is a must for Laramie fans.
