A change of scene (and weather)
kitteninbritches22 September 2023
Fairly interesting episode, adequately described by other reviewers. An unusual feature is that none of the action takes place at the ranch or in its environs- we see Slim and Jess battening down the hatches before leaving to take up temporary jobs as guides for the army. Meanwhile Andy and Jonesy are heading off to Laramie to wait out the bad weather. Which did make me wonder where the livestock were! Horses, a cow, goats, chickens, cat, Andy's waifs and strays..... it never specified who'd be caring for any of them!! This programme does like to cover practical points as a rule. The plot is mainly centred upon Slim's activities, including his fatal attraction for the white woman turned Indian sympathiser. Naturally like all the romances, this understandably went nowhere. A golden rule which still holds good today is that heroes remain steadfastly single! I didn't mind the fake snow (but would horses be left tied up outside in it?) and the avalanche looked real enough, probably from stock footage. Watchable though not much interaction between our main characters.

No easy trek
bkoganbing9 December 2017
As most who are any kind of students of the old west, the Civil War and the Reconstruction period, General Oliver O. Howard lost an arm during the Civil War. Yet in this Laramie episode Harvey Stephens portrays with two good arms. Really a bad goof.

The story has both John Smith and Robert Fuller called up in the cavalry reserve because the Sioux and Cheyenne are on the warpath. Fuller gets to guide General Custer to his destiny and Jess Harper escapes Custer's fate because he's back for the next Laramie episode.

But Smith gets to take a small detail to set off a charge of dynamite to start an avalanche to block a key pass so the Cheyenne can't join the Sioux. Not an easy trek by any means as the detail has to face the snows in the high country.

And then there's Madelyn Rhue a white woman whom they 'rescue' from the Cheyenne. She's gone pure Stockholm and her sympathies are with the Cheyenne.

You'll have to see how this one works out for Slim Sherman.

Fake snow
mema-033845 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Quite possibly one of the worst episodes of the series. Unbelievable special effects: Fake Ivory Flake snow, complete with the frothy bubbles. Wind blowing in the background but nothing moving. Indians running around half naked when it's supposed to be winter. Music was annoying. Almost as blah as the plot. Actors trying their best to be believable. Must have spent an entire day shooting this one.
