Times change, but a teenager's way of thinking doesn't. Most high school guys want their independence at a certain age --and so does Wally!
Hugh Beaumont did a good job directing this episode, as Tony Dow really got into his role and is totally off the wall frustrated.
The bottom line here; he either goes with a car full of guys with his date to a dance (which mom and dad are against) or have his date drive him(?) to the dance so he can become social outcast number one among his male buds, primarily Lumpy! Not a good sitaution to be in.
After much complaining, Wally caves and has his date drive him in her dad's car... and there's a couple of lessons to be learned. Actually, for laughing Lumpy --who gets a parking ticket! He's not laughing.
Look for popular character actor James Seay as the girl's father. Seay was a veteran of movies and tv, especially sci fi films, such as WAR OF THE WORLDS and the AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN, to name a few. Interestingly, right after this role he appeared as a cop in the iconic Bette Davis-Joan Crawford thriller, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE (1962). He should have written a book.
A lot of memories here, especially if you had one or two dopey friends you had to impress. OMG.
