So true, all of us kids remember this episode and our own trials and tribulations of taking the dreaded driver's test in high school. Not fun.
Wally turns 17 and it's his time to get behind the steering wheel, but there's a little problem. And don't y'all love it. His driving instruction course comes with a backseat driver, Shirley (played by Beverly Lunsford). Apparently, Shirley has had more "mileage" on the road than Wally -- and that could be either good news or bad news. Super writing on the part of Bob Ross, who later wrote for ANDY GRIFFITH. You have to give him credit for adding
a new character, instead of the likes of Eddie Haskell, which perhaps would have been way too predictable.
Catch some excellent dialogue here, including June's famous line she doesn't want to be a grandmother quite yet!
Popular cult film actor Russ Bender plays Mr. Barnsdall, Wally's teacher. Bender is best known for appearances in such sci fi classics as THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN and WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST.
Many other films and tv shows.
Beverly Lunsford appeared twice on the show, having a few years earlier appeared in the famous exploitation film, THE INTRUDER, starring William Shatner. Watch for it.
One memorable episode, and possibly an inspiration to Marcia's famous driving test on the BRADY BUNCH. SEASON 6 EPISODE 3 remastered.
