Some history, some not
VetteRanger23 February 2023
Episodes 4 and 5 of Legend both touched ... a bit ... on the history of 1876. In episode four, they included George Armstrong Custer as a character shortly before his assignment to Montana and the disaster his enormous ego and lust for glory led him and his men to at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. That occurred in late June of 1876.

In this episode Legend and Bartok help Wil Bill Hickok track down a gang of outlaws led by Jack McCall. I can find no information suggested that Jack McCall DID lead a gang of outlaws, however the show depicts McCall claiming that Hickok killed his brother years before, and that's a possibility.

Hickok's problems with his eyesight is also an element of this script, with eyeglasses provided by Bartok.

The episode depicts Hickok' s murder at the hands of McCall, which occurred on August 2, 1876. However, in the episode he's presumed murdered but actually survives due to wearing body armor invented by Bartok, then presumably leaves secretly for a ranch he'd bought in California.

Unfortunately for Wild Bill, in reality McCall shot him in the back of the head, and there was no question of his death. In fact his body was reburied in 1879, and it was certainly in the grave.
