Though "The Lone Ranger" was basically a kiddie show, some episodes are surprisingly good. This is one of them.
Trendle, Striker, et al, treat Tonto not merely as a "faithful companion", but Reid's equal. In this episode, Tonto suggests a method to search for the thieves, which Reid gratefully accepts.
The best part is Nan Leslie as the villainess. Not only is she a coldly manipulative killer, but... she smokes! "Give me a cigarette!" She lights up at least twice, proving that she's a bad, bad, woman.
This ain't high drama, but the plotting and characterizations are a bit more complex than one would expect. (A bit.) And then there's I. Stanford Jolley in a great beard.
