Paying for the wrong crime
kapelusznik1824 July 2015
***SPOILERS***After suffocating 80 year old Sara Thurston, Constance Cameron, and ripping off the family jewels former petty now major criminal Harry Frost, Ben Remsen, meekly turns himself into the police the next day taking the rap for a crime, a warehouse robbery of $86.00, that he didn't commit! This puzzles the policeman M Squad Let. Frank Ballinger, Lee Marvin, whom Frost gave himself up to in feeling that there's something else behind his actions and it's not in, after breaking it, obeying the law!

With what was at first the flat broke Frost somehow coming up with the $500.00 to bail himself out Let. Ballinger who was following his every move finds out that ex-convict and night club owner Gil Kirby, Paul Dubov, was the one who came up with the cash. And not only that Kirby pulled the same kind of stunt or act years ago in calming to have committed a petty robbery, and getting two months behind bars for it, while at the same time a $20,000.00 payroll robbery was committed miles away that he may well have been involved in!

Chercking out the newspapers of the robbery that Frost was supposed to have committed Let. Ballinger finds a number of errors in the story that was corrected in a later edition that Frost didn't know about! And it now became very obvious to Ballinger that Frost was pulling an act or fast one in taking the rap for a minor crime to cover up a much bigger one:Robbery & murder! That's when the penniless Frost is spotted by Let. Ballinger in Kirby's night club boozing it up while claiming that he's looking for a job there.

***SPOILERS*** Smelling a rat in all this Let. Ballinger has Frost meet him for a quite chat in of all places the late Sara Thurston's cluttered up mansion. With Let. Ballinger planning to catch him with a trap he set up for Frost there and, if he's guilty of her murder, see if he takes the bait! It doesn't take long for Frost to fall for the trap Ballinger set up for him with a hidden shotgun bobbi trap that only Frost, that went off when he had robbed and murdered Mrs. Thurston, would know about and tried to avoid it. Only that this time unknown to Frost it didn't have any shells in it. And as things turned out instead of Frost as well as his partner in crime Kirby getting away with murder they ended up on death row in the Illinois State Prison instead!
