A Birthday Gone Bad!
Hitchcoc28 April 2015
Two events involving "girls." One girl is Margaret Houlihan who has birthday plans in Tokyo. She is going to see a guy and go to restaurants and go to the Kabuki. She needs Klinger to take her to the airport. About this time the second "girl" appears. This one is a cow that is going to give birth. While Margaret and Klinger are trying to make it to the airport, she insists on his taking a shortcut. He knows this is an awful road and that it is dangerous to take it. She won't listen to him. They travel a ways until a rock comes up and cracks the oil pan and that is all she wrote. There will be no trip to Tokyo. She is cruel to Klinger who tries to boost her spirits, especially after she admits it is her birthday. There is a lot of soul searching. Loretta Switt's Margaret is a complex character and has developed greatly from the old Frank Burns days.

Warning: Spoilers
This is the second episode where Nurse Kellye's surname has been mistakenly referred to as Nakahara (the last real name of the actress), even though Nurse Kellye's on-screen surname is Yamato. Charles addressed Nurse Kellye as Lt. Yamato. Two episodes ago, 'Twas the Day After Christmas, Klinger referred to Nurse Kellye as Nurse Nakahara. It seems the script supervisor was derelict in duty.

Anyway, Margaret is aggrieved that she cannot make it to Tokyo to celebrate her birthday with some general. Margaret didn't reveal her birthday to the 4077th because she didn't want her colleagues to use it as an excuse for a few hours of drunkenness. Margaret speaks the truth for sure, as I'm not big into celebrating birthdays.

Margaret's attitude

Warning: Spoilers
One thing I have found tiresome in some of the later episodes is Margaret's attitude towards Klinger . I.find especially when he's not really done anything to her that measures up to her criticisms . There are several episodes she badmouths him when is in dire straits or it's completely unwarranted . It's even odder when overall she has an improved relationship with everyone except Potter who she's always liked and respected.

There are episodes of them getting along pretty well even earlier in the series.

I get not wanting a big fuss over your birthday and wanting to just do what you want so I do understand her frustration .
