Max is not exactly a healthy and well adjusted guy!

"Madigan" is a TV series starring Richard Widmark. Widmark himself also starred in the movie "Madigan" a few years before the show debuted. Oddly, despite the show starring a top movie star and getting good ratings, it was canceled after six episodes. Perhaps some of this was related to the bizarre decision to make episodes 3-5 in Europe, with police detective Madigan working cases in London, Portugal and Naples. I think this hurt the show, as it was supposed to be about a New York City cop. Fortunately, for this final episode, Madigan is back on his home turf.

John Larch plays Max...a cop who has gone bad. How bad? After apprehending one criminal, he executes him by shooting the guy at close range. Luckily, he got off with only losing his job instead of heading to prison. Since then, he's had a hard time getting work. Out of the blue a job offer arrives...to kill someone for money...a lot of money!

Max's wife suspects something is up with her husband...something illegal. But instead of going to the police, she contacts Madigan and asks him to investigate on his own. Where is Max going and what is his job...Madigan is determined to find and stop his old friend.

This is a decent episode but the scene with Madigan and Max's wife is bizarre. She calls to tell Madigan that Max is going to do something bad and begs for his help. When Madigan meets with her and looks at the evidence, he tells her he thinks Max is going to kill someone for money...and she argues with him about this! SHE is the one who thought her husband was going to do something very bad and she begged Madigan for his help! And, he's taking time off to help her!

Later, when Madigan figures out who the target it, he approaches the intended victim...and the intended victim's reaction is just plain bizarre.

Apart from these poorly written scenes, the show is pretty good...better than most of the European episodes. Worth watching and sad because the show was canceled so quickly.
