Magnum is vengeful in this episode. He is angry because he was tricked then sustains a serious injury via a gunshot. No laconic look into the camera lens in this episode.
There is more than usual gunplay in this instalment. At one point, Magnum is seen discharging several cartridges from his iconic 1911 pistol, emptying the magazine, then inserting another.
Western actor Clu Gulager is only seen in the pivotal act of the episode.
Rick, TC, and Higgins seem to be in more of the scenes directly supporting Magnum's cases. beginning with a few episodes back. Also, there are fewer scenes with Magnum in the Pacific Ocean doing his morning workout.
It appears that Magnum is getting older in these episodes and his reputation as a p. i. has improved.
It appears that the tone of this show has changed to a more serious one and Magnum has evolved from the carefree beach bum to a more mature individual.
I remember years ago that it was during the 6th year of the series, the Nielsen rating began to tumble a bit.
This episode was what I felt to have been one of the better ones.
