Another soap actor Anthony Addabbo guests in this episode as a New York Rangers player who asks Fran out while she's at a sports bar with Val. Addabbo becomes a genuine jinx of a boyfriend as his obsession with superstitions to win becomes increasingly unfunny and sometimes violent. Of course he's handsome, charming and romantic so you're supposed to like him, but something is just off about how far this episode takes the comedy. It's a good episode as far as using New York City references are concerned (with a cameo by one of the real NY Rangers), but completely over the top in the use of superstitions as a plot device.
