That Girl

Warning: Spoilers
The opening of this episode begins in a flower shop. While Fran is looking at some tulips, Max's mother strolls into the shop and is looking for tulips as well. The salesman in the flower shop asks if he can help Max's mother.

After Mr. Sheffield's mom comes on to the much younger salesman, she tells him she's looking for tulips. The salesman tells her that someone is already looking at the tulips and Max's mom ask who. The salesman points at Fran as says "That Girl". Cue up the music from that girl. Perfect.

Max's mom and Fran argue over the tulips for a great opening to the show. Of course, neither lady is aware of their relationships with Max. This is probably my favorite episode from Season 3.

In less than 30 seconds, Grace does an imitation of Fran that's worth the price of admission.

Dina Merrill plays Max's overbearing mom beautifully in the show.

The end, where Fran plays with Maxwell's mind, is also terrific. An excellent episode from beginning to end.

I believe if you are a fan of the show, you'll really enjoy this one!

The incomparable Dina Merrill walks off with this episode!

Warning: Spoilers
The audience knows before Fran does that the uppity snob in the flower shop is Maxwell's mother, disapproving of everything her son does, especially his choice for her grand children's nanny. Dina Merrill is the epitome of grace and sophistication yet here, she's obviously enjoying her chance to be a demanding shrew. With eyes for younger men, it's obvious that she's as lusty as her estranged husband, calling out "Jean Luc!" to her unseen chauffeur. That adds unique dimensions to her character who could have been one note without Merrill's presence. It's another one time guest appearance that should have been more. You get to see another side of Elizabeth Sheffield when she meets Sylvia. Completely charming in every way with each of the kids getting nice scenes with their controlling grandmother, it's in the top 10 of my favorite episodes of the series.
