GOOD EPISODE
rms125a11 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Good episode about pornography, murder, the mob, white slavery, and a new and frightening milestone in depravity -- the snuff film. (Hugh O'Brian, playing Sergeant Daley, looks absurd in one scene wearing an ascot tied around his neck and sporting, throughout the entire episode, sadly, a moustache that would not be out of place in one of the skin flicks the cops are investigating, though, LOL.)

One more novelty for this tremendous series. I will repeat myself after my previous comments about this TV show, but I have never seen any topic talking of the pornography business and snuff films. But the frame of this episode looks very like a POLICE STORY episode, unlike the previous one I commented yesterday. You have here the unavoidable car chase, as in any seventies tale. A buddy movie scheme, two police officers investigating. At this time, the mid seventies, pornography and snuff movies - and not speaking of kids involved - was a harsh subject to be spoken of, but it has not the disgusting and so powerful impact that 8MM - with Nick Cage - had in 1999, two decades later.

Urban legend?
planktonrules14 June 2017
I love watching re-runs of the old 1970s cop show, "Police Story". Each one presents a different aspect of police work and this one focuses on pornography and the mob.

While the local municipality has chosen not to bother investigating the local porn industry, Sgt. Daley (Hugh O'Brian) is pushing for this because he's worried about mob infiltration of the industry. The mob, according to Daley, specializes in making so-called 'snuff films'--movies which feature actual murders in order to satisfy the sickest of tastes. This is because a local teenager was found dead...an apparent victim of the industry and Daley and his partner (Christopher Stone) are out to catch the murderer. So, they go undercover with a local porn merchant...a guy who doesn't want his business controlled by these jerks.

Although I like the show normally, my reason for giving this one a rather low score is because I did some research and apparently snuff films are an urban legend. They've not been able to find any porno films with real murders in them...and I checked several sources. Interesting show...but inaccurate.

By the way, sites that say that snuff films are urban legends include: Snopes, the Straight Dope, and 24 News Archives among others.
