Love Is Explosive!
Rabical-9110 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Rab and Mary's marriage is on the rocks so in an attempt to ignite the flame they take a trip out to the lake district for the weekend, with Jamesie and Ella in tow. The weekend is a disaster, Rab and Mary end up in such a heated argument that Mary threatens divorce.

Gash meanwhile is nearly killed by a nuclear explosion from a stream in which toxic waste from a chemical factory is being pumped into whilst walking along with his girlfriend. Whilst Gash is in hospital fighting for his life, Rab is taking on the head of Selby's ( the plant responsible for the explosion ), a smug, devious bullshitter of the first order whose comeuppance ( when it arrives ) is immensely satisfying.

Gash's narrow escape may have saved Govan from further pollution but is it enough to save his parents' marriage?

Good episode, though no explanation is given as to why Rab and Mary's marriage is suffering, although it is implied that it could be that their sex drives have slackened off ( ''I don't know where she ends and I begin!'' says Rab ). Julie Wilson Nimmo, who plays Gash's girlfriend Sally, appeared with Andrew Fairlie on the set of the underrated 'Pulp Video' the same year this series went out.

Funniest bit - Rab philosophising on how sooner or later in marriage your wife becomes your pal rather than your lover - ''That means it becomes inappropriate to shag your pal, doesn't it?''.

Second funniest bit - Dodie reading out loud a news article in which a young woman was apparently brought out of a coma after a Take That record was played to her for twelve hours non stop. ''Wouldn't that put you in a coma?'' asks Andra rhetorically.
