Both touching and preposterous

Although Eddie Bracken has some good moments especially at the end when he puts on that Emmet Kelly sad clown makeup and entertains a dying child, the story in this Rawhide episode is a bit preposterous.

Bracken is a clown who ran away from the circus and has become a studen of various tribal languages. When the trail drive finds him he's on a mission to get to the Comanches and stop an Indian ar from breaking out.

Let's say his clown skills prove more valuable than his linguistics.

Bracken does well in a really ill defined role. His scenes with Clint Eastwood are his best.
