Political Scandal Under A Microscope
JasonDanielBaker11 March 2013
Popular TV talk show host and former multi-sport athletic champion Mark Elliott (Bill Bixby) announces he is quitting his highly rated show to run for the United States senate with an extreme right-wing platform. This comes the day after his mistress Carol Lesco (Brenda Benet) has been kidnapped and a $5 million ransom demanded.

Secret agent Hugh Lockwood (Hugh O'Brian) is dispatched by his private investigation company World Securities to expedite the payment in order to secure Ms.Lesko's safe return. He also looks into why she was kidnapped and who the secretive group of wealthy supporters of Elliott's senate bid really are.

The actions taken by characters in this episode appear to run counter-intuitive to those which precede them. There is also a wide inconsistency in the respective mindsets of each of the guest characters in particular. It is still entertaining up until the viewer begins to apply logic.

The show 'Search' was an NBC-TV series which aired during the 1972-73 season on Wednesday Nights at 10:00 PM. It was about World Securities - a firm of private investigation with hi-tech computers that could access information from hidden cameras placed discreetly upon the person of each of its field operatives. A communication link would allow for exchange of data to be analyzed by the computers and team of experts back at agency headquarters. The team of experts would be led by the firm director portrayed by Burgess Meredith.

The show was like the modern series "Person of Interest" but with a group of three field operatives portrayed respectively by Tony Franciosa, Doug McClure and Hugh O'Brian each of whom would take turns as field operative in the adventure of whatever particular week it was their turn.

This episode Features Brenda Benet - a breathtakingly beautiful actress who lit up the screen in whatever production she appeared. She tragically killed herself in 1982 and conjecture at the time was that it was partly because her real-life relationship with Bill Bixby had ended.

G.D. Spradlin who portrayed Ackerman in this episode is a familiar face for political conspiracy theory buffs who interpret movies and shows as relaying some kind of message. He played the corrupt politician in Godfather II who gets framed for murdering a prostitute.
