Another Great Episode
csmith-9961531 January 2021
I never really understood the hatred between the homesteaders and the cattlemen. Its been well documented in countless TV shows and movies. Seems like during the 19th century there was plenty of land for both groups. In fact it seems like the two groups would be perfect trade partners beef for grain, and food stuffs. But evidently this wasn't the case. In this episode a ranch hand of Ryker doesn't even think homesteaders are human. As usual Shane saves the day but it should be noted that Ryker ( who supposedly also hates sod busters ) shows some real guts in doing whats right. This series was very well written and acted. Unfortunately it was never really given a chance. Maybe never would have been a Gunsmoke or a Bonanza but you never know.

Warning: Spoilers
I just love all these episodes. I thought they were very well done...The drama was excellent. It's interesting to note just how much power Shane had on the farm. He made some of the decisions that Tom should have made, and Tom didn't say a thing about it...such as giving Ryker back his calf. In all rights, Tom could have refused to let him do it...but Shane had some sort of pull with the family. What was it that was said? Shane's pretty tight with the family...Yep...

I really like Ryker's character. He's tough, but honest. It shocks me every time I watch this episode the way Ryker just comes in, picks up the shovel, and starts undamming the creek...It really shows that though he hates sod-busters...he respects honesty. I think that deep down he had a lot of respect for Shane as well...

Like I said, another excellent episode.
