The Most Brilliant Episode in Simpsons History! PERIOD
SimpsonsFan1312 December 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Cape Feare is my absolute favorite Simpsons episode of all-time. In fact it's one of the first episodes that really got me into watching The Simpsons. This one features my favorite semi- recurring character, Sideshow Bob, voiced most excellently by Kelsey Grammar. This episode had a brilliantly hilarious script, with the kind of dark satire that I love in The Simpsons. The use of the theme music from the movie Cape Fear (or The Sideshow Bob theme as I like to call it) was excellent. This episode contained some of my favorite moments in Simpsons history like the witness protection scene, the rake scene, the butcher knife gag, and my most personal favorite, the HMS Pinafore scene. Overall this is the greatest episode in Simpsons history, but what more could you expect from season 5, one of my favorite seasons of all-time. This episode alone was my reason for buying the season 5 DVD.

Classic Sideshow Bob Episode
freemantle_uk8 July 2009
Up until 'Day of the Jackanapes' Sideshow Bob episode have been some of the best Simpsons episodes and Cape Feare is seen as one of best episodes overall by Simpsons fans.

Bart is receiving death threats in the post, causing him to live in fear and stress. It is soon revived that Sideshow Bob had been sending the letter and he had just been released from prison. The Simpson family are placed in the FBI witness protection program, and relocated to Lake Terror. But Sideshow Bob was able to follow the family and wants to exact his bloody revenge on Bart.

Cape Feare is the Simpsons' version of Martin Scorsese's Cape Fear, with many scenes lifted and parodied. It fun to see the Simpsons' twist on that psycho thriller (as well as some other film references). They are top notch jokes, good voice acting, excellent animation and even a good few musical numbers. All key parts of what made the Simpsons successful. A great moment for the Simpsons.

Best Simpsons Episode
tequila1019 August 2010
I love Side Show Bob and I believe that Cape Feare would have to be his best episode by far. The Plots sets out as Sideshow Bob sends Bart Deaths threats and is then released from Prison making another fearful, bloody revenge on Bart. Knowing what Side Show Bob will do next, the FBI decide to change the Simpson's family name and place them into a new location.

I love this episode in many ways and I also think this is Sideshow Bob's creepiest appearance. I think this is a good Simpson's episode because it's not only thriller-like but it also adds up excellent comedy and quality as we see the Bates Motel and Parodies of Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre & Friday the 13th.

This is a chilling, comedic episode and this is an episode that I watch over and over again. 9.6/10

My Favorite Episode SPOILERS

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS

Cape Feare is my favorite episode of all time. Bart gets ominous letters written in blood. It is revealed to be Sideshow Bob writing because Bart foiled his plan to frame Krusty for armed robbery. The Simpsons move to Terror Lake and changed their name to the Thompsons.

Only Sideshow Bob followed them under the car. After nine hits with a rake he plots his revenge. Bart sees Sideshow Bob under a car and goes to his parents.

In the middle of the night after two scares by Homer, Sideshow Bob comes in Bart's room with a machete. He had tied up the family and Bart goes out the window. Bart foiled Sideshow Bob by making Bob sing the entire score to the H.M.S Penifore. The cops arrest Sideshow Bob and it ends with a woman Grandpa.

Overall, this is my favorite episode. You would not want to miss this episode. It is a classic.

Not only my favourite Sideshow Bob episode, but quite possibly my favourite Simpsons episode
TheLittleSongbird17 June 2010
I will say I love the Simpsons, but like a vast majority of people I do prefer the early episodes to the newer episodes. Cape Feare as I have said, and I have to say I completely agree with the other reviewers here, is not only my favourite Sideshow Bob episode but I think it is my favourite Simpsons episode.

For one thing I love the character of Sideshow Bob, he is sinister and funny at the same time, and is just a recurring character I enjoy watching. Kelsey Grammar is perfect as the character, bringing the right touch of the dark comedy and the sinister. The other voice acting is top notch as well, especially Nancy Cartwright as Bart. The animation is superb, very colourful and lively, and the music is wonderful-the jaunty theme tune, Sideshow Bob's theme and of course HMS Pinafore which is my favourite part of the episode.

The story is well-written and interesting, the sight gags are clever and inventive, especially the one with the rake and the dialogue is just hilarious constantly, there are times when Bob actually upstages Homer in the humour department and for me this is one of the most quotable Simpsons episodes. The part I laugh most hysterically at is:

Homer: Hey, kids! Want to drive through that Cactus patch?

Bart: Yeah!

Lisa: Yeah!

Sideshow Bob(who happens to be underneath the car): No!

Homer: Well two against one. (and he drives through the cactus field anyway)

Sideshow Bob: Ow, ow, ow, ow!

Overall, I love this episode, there is so much to recommend it, and it reminds me strongly of the days when The Simpsons was brilliant in alternative to good. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Sideshow Bob At His best
Gerardrobertson617 June 2018
Another great episode from Season 5, and with Side Show Bob in it, you can't go wrong. Again, Bob is out to kill Bart and in the process manages to step onto a whole bunch of rakes, sing the entire score of HMS Pinafore and do a send up of classic horror movies such as Bates Motel, Cape Fear and Friday the 13th. I have this one down in my top 5 listing, great episode and never get sick of it.

This is a memorable episode with great character moments and some fantastic gags.

There is some fairly dark comedy in Cape Feare and it's delivered hilariously at times.

Kelsey Grammer's character is a great source of humour. The parody of the Scorsese's movie sets up so many funny gags. His voice performance is one of the best.

The best moments for me are Homer's hilarious acts of stupidity. I love the "Homer Thompson" banter with the FBI. What he is wearing when they arrive at Terror Lake is genius. When he scares Bart twice in one sequence is possibly my favourite gag in The Simpsons history.

Better than perfect, in fact, compared to this, perfection is crap!

Warning: Spoilers
It's hard to choose what the best part of this episode is. The rakes? The Cactus field? The witness protection program.

My favorite quote of the episode is when when Lisa called Moe:

Look, Moe I know you're behind this. So knock it off! Or we're going to the cops!

OK OK, I'll stop

Alright boys, it's over, let em' out!

*pandas run out of Moe's*

I liked when Bob sung the HMS pinafore, when he got ran over by the elephants, and especially:

Doesn't that say die, Bart, die?

No, that's German for the ,Bart, the.

No man that speaks German can be an evil man!

Sensational!!!!
Hitchcoc6 May 2022
From the first scene to the last, this episode sparks with its combination of lowbrow and intellectual comedy. There is never a dull moment. Sideshow Bob is a great character and will emerge from prison again, I am sure. Of course, as he pursues Bart to kill him, everything goes wrong. He is the ultimate victim of the random nature of the universe. The scene with the rakes hitting him in the face is priceless. The whole Gilbert and Sullivan bit is huge. The fact that the whole family sings along, knowing every word is superb. Of course, the very idea of them being in the witness protection program is itself hilarious. Oh, when the FBI tries to get Homer to answer as Homer Thompson, it is endless. So cool. I have a lot of episodes to go, but it will be really hard to top this.

Joint best episode, along with Marge vs the Monorail and You only Move Twice.

Warning: Spoilers
Every scene is classic. The benevolent General Krull, Nelson spying/showing great intuition, homages to Friday 13th and Edward Scissorhands, the Federal Bureau of Investigation seeing just how stupid Homer really is, The Thompsons, the marching band, the sheer longevity of the "rake" scene and the HMS Pinafore. This is as close to a perfect half hour of television as it is physically possible to get. We all love Cape Feare.

One of the best episodes of all time
AJB20025 June 2020
Now perhaps I am overly-nostalgic for this episode for it was one of the few episodes I had on VHS tape as a child and watched it again and again. But nostalgia aside this is a brilliant episode of the Simpsons. It's jokes are funny and the plot is memorable. If I were to rank my top favourite episodes of the Simpsons this would surely be in the top ten...maybe even the top five.

Potential the best, but a bland episode.
stefanodellicarpini9 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
One of the darkest episode of "The Simpsons" starts in the best way, with a parody of some thriller story about a killer (Bob sending letter written with blood and faint) the darkest mood in the beginning is something very enjoyable thanks to the well written scenography, unfortanely the second part of the story is really bland, most-inducing laugh (the iconic scene of rakes it's one of that scene, but the parade well) and really confusing (Why Sideshow wait for an entire episode if he need to block the family? What's the meaning of the "Parate" scene? Why rakes appear all of a sudden? etc.). I see that was considered one of the best episode of the serie but cite "Psycho" "Friday the 13th" or be a parody of a movie doesn't mean be the best, in my opinion is on of the worst Sideshow Bob's episode with "Bob Next Door".

Best Sideshow Bob Episode Ever!
deracktakade14 August 2018
This episode is not the best Sideshow Bob episode, but it's also the best episode of Season 5. It's an original from the Golden Age (1-10). And oh, rakes....

Best Sideshow Bob Episode Ever and Maybe the Funniest Episode Of All Time
vlinalter22 November 2020
This episode is so great. It perfectly balances suspense with humor. There are so many funny jokes! This episode somehow makes someone trying to murder a child funny! This is also where the running gag of Sideshow Bob stepping on rakes originated and the first appearance of the Sideshow Bob theme which has appeared with him ever since which is why I think that this is the classic Sideshow Bob episode. This might be one of the best episodes ever and is definitely the funniest.

Scorsese would be proud!
safenoe26 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I can't believe it's taken me ages and ages to finally post an imdb user review for Cape Feare, a smart and very clever parody of Cape Fear (the remake that was directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert DeNiro and Nick Nolte). Anyway, definitely Kelsey Grammer, who was about to experience a new level of fame with Frasier, chews the screen as Sideshow Bob, as he seeks revenge on Bart (but no ice cream cone scene like Cape Fear). Anyway, a true classic, and I'm enjoying reflecting on the golden years of The Simpsons, being the first 10 years with some honorable mentions post-season 10 init.
