Moxon, Inman and Jordan are at a party hobnobbing with the Soviets. There is a tour of a Russian ballet company so it is an opportunity to relax and maybe even do a bit of flirting.

Lydia Tamarova is a young pretty ballerina who goes missing and eventually pleads for asylum. She is not political but just wants to live her life the way she wants.

Inman supports her claim although Lydia does rather well on her own by going public with the press.

Later another dissident with the ballet company Leonid Rubin who is middle aged and not so pretty also wants to defect. Leonid has sneaked out from Russia some valuable writings from dissident Russian writers. He has been cooperating with a London based rights group that supports these writers.

However Moxon is not happy that Leonid should be allowed to stay in the UK and it will cause waves with relations with the Soviets.

An episode that concentrates on Inman. It might even intimate that Inman fought for Lydia because he found her attractive. She is someone who knew how to use her sex appeal and she was only motivated by money in contrast with Leonid Rubin.

Writer Louis Marks was an intelligent and literate writer. He asks the question as to why you have to be political to claim asylum. Lydia just wants a better way of life. It also contemplates whether you are successful in your claim might depend more than just the strengths of you convictions. Lydia is charming and photogenic.

That aside, I found this to be a dull episode. Almost that the gas has run out by the end of the second series.
