Good spy drama
searchanddestroy-16 April 2020
This is probably the best, or at least among the best spy dramas, I have ever seen in this series so far. It is a spy drama because about a young diplomat in the Russian embassy who is ready to send documents about the probable threat that Russia can become for Mexico state. The "man who cried wolf" is of course the added element which spices the whole scheme, adds more drama and suspense in this very good episode directed by Robert Mulligan. Only the ending is a bit too tepid for my taste.

Tension courtesy of Mulligan
lor_8 November 2023
Plenty of tension is developed in this live TV performance, dealing rather believably with a man on the spot. The show is wrapped up too suddenly and conveniently, however, blunting the overall impact.

Martin Brooks (later a regular cast member for the "Six Million Dollar Man" series) is convincing as the functionary working at the Russian embassy in Mexico City, who desperately is striving to save himself and his family after he reads a dispatch from Moscow indicating he's now considered a security risk to be sent home to Russia, facing a bleak fate.

His desperate attempts to find someone who will believe him and accept some incriminating papers he's just stolen from the embassy to use as a bargaining chip come to nought, as everybody in the Mexican government and media remembers his lies a year ago that destroyed his credibility, lies he was forced to spread by his superiors. Accused of having "cried wolf" his case seems hopeless, but his ace in the hole remains those hot documents.

Though some of the acting is over the top, future movie director (of substantial work for the big screen) keeps things moving and sustains interest in what is largely a one-note story.
