Here is yet another example of how feuds start from the sillies stuff. According to Henrietta Porter, the fight all started over 3 yards of dress goods. A great big fight - a 17 year feud - started because some woman thought she was being sold "old" material. How silly is that?
But then Mark made everything worse by not owning up to his own mistakes. I must say that I saw the ending as soon as Luke was shot. I knew he had done it and why, but it's still interesting to think that he almost got several people killed because he wouldn't own up to his mistake...And their mother died believing that somebody had shot and killed her son - the man who she knew as a rival. If only she had lived long enough to know the truth...to know that finally, the feud was over.
Did you notice, too, that the three sons were named Matthew, Mark, and Luke? I'm guessing they wanted to have a fourth son and call him John. If a fifth had to have been born, what would his name have been?
