Someone other than Spongebob lives under the sea!

Warning: Spoilers
While I would not call this the best episode of the series, it sure comes close--mostly because the plot idea is so cool....really, really cool. The film begins with a freighter being sunk and then some underwater cameramen disappearing. Straker thinks this may all be attributed to UFOs and so he and Colonel Foster investigate---though I wonder why some other people couldn't have done this, as you'd think the two colonels would be pretty indispensable. Regardless, the two men use the sub to investigate and then don scuba gear. In the process, they find an underwater domed compound where they see a member of SHADO inside--or so they think. This part actually seemed a bit lame, as the two automatically assumed it was their man--even though I immediately assumed he was an alien double. In fact, on further investigation, that's exactly what they learn--that the entire SHADO headquarters has been recreated within--with exact duplicates of everyone! Watch this fascinating episode to see what happens next. It's a great plot idea, though the ending seems a bit miraculous--but not enough to significantly hinder the episode.

Epic Hour with Energy
StuOz9 January 2008
The aliens are now at the bottom of the sea, living in an undersea dome, and submarine Skydiver is keeping an eye on the trouble making aliens.

Reflections begins with a surface ship being attacked by an underwater UFO. The drama of this moment is well played and Barry Gray is going all out with his disaster music but the miniature effects are too miniature looking. It just looks like toys in a bath tub.

Act one then begins with episode titles and wonderfully loud Barry Gray music playing over these titles. Good stuff. From this point on the episode is a total winner, however more poor miniature effects do appear in tiny bursts. No big problem. During the 26 episode run of UFO the cast did change a lot and in this hour the crew of submarine Skydiver is not the same crew as seen in the first 17 episodes of UFO.

The episode has interesting humans (Anderson) maybe taken over by the aliens, it has Straker getting around and about away from the office, it has action and adventure! An all round good show that is the best of UFO.

Underwater Alien dome!!!

Gerry Anderson created a fantastic world about an uncover agency to struggles against Aliens, but in that time didn't allowed graphic computer to help, they were forced to use a large sets miniatures meticulously well done, even so is enjoyable series with several new elements which enrich the work itself, the costumes are advanced, pretty girls working in leading roles, anyway the best of this time, in the episode Straker has to know where the new Alien hideout in middle of the Atlantic ocean, a dome near the volcano!!!

Reflections in the Water

An early appearance from young James Cosmo. He plays Lieutenant Anderson of SHADO.

Straker and Colonel Foster take the skydiver to investigate the Atlantic seabed after a freighter is sunk. They find a giant underwater dome.

Inside the dome they see Lieutenant Anderson. Thinking that he might be working for the aliens, Anderson is bought in for questioning.

Later on Straker finds more doppelgangers. A room inside the dome doubles for the SHADO base to get pass security systems at the Moonbase to stop them destroying the UFOs.

There is some good use of model work in this episode. The story is a load of nonsense. How did the aliens managed to create a duplicate of the SHADO control room as well as the doubles of the staff.

I also wondered if Anderson was in the dome, did Straker not wonder if he could be a double. It is some feat for Anderson to be at the dome and then get back to SHADO so quickly.

Deep fakes
lor_9 September 2023
Fine model work, explosions and underwater photography lift this offbeat adventure into Inner Space that takes Ed and Billington on the Skydiver to the sea's bottom. They discover a huge undersea dome, hunting for a link between fatal incidents on the surface with another UFO pre-invasion.

A nice variation on the serie's usual suspense, with mre danger added as they have evidence of alien infiltration into SHADO headquarters via a traitor. Some familiar actors like David Warbeck and Steven Berkoff plus sexy Anouska Hempel (wearing the partially sea-through Undersea uniform) show up in minor roles.

Though far afield from the usual Outer Space antics, it's an interesting segment, sort of a pilot for a spinoff series that could have been called "The Dome" (as we've seen intriguing studio sets representing the interior of the spooky Dome). Especially of interest is a central plot point based on the concept of Deep Fakes, now in the news but clearly just sci-fi five decades ago when this was shot.
