Vestal Virgins

After the Comedy Playhouse pilot. This is the first episode of Up Pompeii.

Frankie Howerd brushes off some old gags. Or has he mentions during his prologue. They were new back in BC72. Like do you know what's a Grecian urn? Oh well suit yourself.

Lurcio's master Senator Ludicrus Sextus must is involved in the Miss Vestal Virgin contest. That is if a couple of virgins can be found.

Noxious and Piteous plan to rig the contest by planning a few shapely ladies who are definitely not virgins.

It leads Lurcio to resort to drastic measures. He gets Nausius, the Senator's son to pretend to be a vestal virgin.

I was surprised how well the comedy stood up. I found myself laughing constantly. Howerd complaining the actors had better lines and he was acting as the straight man. Even Willie Rushton turns up as the chorus.
