Indian captive tries to adjust to the white world
bkoganbing1 March 2019
Susan Strasberg plays a girl who was part of a trio of Arapahoes looking to pick off some Shiloh cattle. On further inspection they discover she's a white girl, most likely taken by Arapahoes when they were at war.

Charles Bickford tries his best to make her at home in Shiloh and the white world and granddaughter Sara Lane tries to help her adjust but to no avail.

After a lot of investigation Bickford thinks that Don Hamner and Virginia Vincent might be the possible parents. Whether he's right and whether they can connect with Strassberg is for you to watch this episode.

This issue is explored in some detail in the John Ford film Two Rode Together and in Walt Disney's Light Of The Forest. It's handled well in this Virginian story.

Well worth watching

The story is perhaps a little corny, but the acting pulls it to the top. It is hard to say whether it is far-fetched or not, because it is about another era and things were just not the same back them. The parents are great actors and Charles Bickford holds the screen much like Lee J. Cobb did .

VIRGINIA VINCENT, HEAVY HITTER
CaptWinkie7 September 2023
Nowadays for many reasons, parents are separated from their kids- some for awhile, others for awhile longer. Many have no scar, birthmark or the same loud laugh as their great Aunt Bessie, so if there's no immediate recognition, it may take some effort to find shared songs or memories to confirm kinship. If it were happening to one of the people we already know on Shiloh, that would be one thing, but this is happening among guest stars and support players- esp Virginia Vincent as Louise Emory. She starts out kind of goofy and then grabs the part and kills it- very surprising and memorable. Worth watching for that. You might need a hankie.
