Hondo Redux
bkoganbing11 September 2017
Elements of the John Wayne classic Hondo are present in this Virginian episode. James Drury is on a manhunt into Montana territory for three bank robbers and his only clue is a horse left behind with the brand of a Montana ranch.

He finds the first two, John Mitchum and Jon Drury in a town celebrating their ill gotten gains. Both of them pin the murder on the third man. On the hunt for him, The Virginian stops off at another small ranch and finds it kind of run down with a sick mother and a young son, who are played by Sheree North and Dennis Holmes.

At this point the Hondo allegory kicks in. The Virginian forms a realtionship with the wife and kid and hopes to God the absent husband played by John Agar isn't the man he's looking for.

The Virginian redid several big screen westerns in its run for the show. Need I say it doesn't quite work out for James Drury as it did for the Duke.
