The backstory
bkoganbing27 February 2020
In this episode we see the backstory behind the episode where Flint McCullough finds Chris Hale outside a burned wreck of a cabin and five fresh graves which contain his family.

John McIntire tells the tale to Bethel Leslie who after agreeing to settle in a valley her husband Charles Aidman feels is suitable for farming has her little daughter killed in an accident. McIntire narrates his story of his loss.

McIntire's real life wife Jeanette Nolan plays the title role and the McIntires always did many joint projects on the big and small screen. Their scenes are special as McIntire is torn between his responsibility as wagonmaster and his duty to his family.

This one will have your eyes moist.

Awful!

Warning: Spoilers
I have seen every episode of Wagon Train with the exception of those with the John McIntire character. In this backstory McIntire abandons his sick wife and children on the trail at a "homestead" where they are all killed. Everything in this episode marks McIntire as a reprehensible person. Terrible script, bad acting, and even worse direction. Yuck . . .
