Herr West Gets Tickled
DKosty12313 September 2009
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of the West series is about humor & a wink of the eye. While this Loveless episode is not as large an action episode as some, it does twist the plot along with a Tickle, a parrot & a grin. It is entertaining which is what this series is all about and has some clever gadgets & touches.

The opening sequence is Loveless funeral where he appears to be dead in his casket at a funeral home when West & Artie come in. Then, they get in a fight with some folks at the home and start a huge fire which appears to incinerate the body. While it is never explained, how Lovelesses body gets out of this situation, it is no surprise to veteran West viewers that he does escape even though he is lying there dead.

The valuable clues that lead to the Loveless will and to the introduction of West & Artie to his twin brother are quite entertaining. As usual, Loveless has more in mind than it originally appears including setting himself up to perform brain surgery on Jim West. Fortunately, Artie comes in to help West out of the situation before the knife can get started.

One of the most interesting West vs Loveless stories.

Oh, no, that's maybe not the best of them all, the most spectacular, but certainly the most interesting because you can assist here at a sort of short sequence of West and his long time Nemesis Dr Loveless running together against a bunch of enemies. That's not so usual, let's admit it. Even for a short sequence. Some weird scenes, where Arte talks with a lady and not so many fist fights between Jim West and local goons. I summarize, that's maybe not the best of all, but better than a couple of others.

Plot is hugely unbelievable, but well acted.

Warning: Spoilers
*Spoiler/plot- TNO Dr. Loveless Died, 1967, The agents uncover a twisted plot devised by their old nemesis, Dr. Loveless to fake his own death with a European relative, uncle Dr. Leibknicht.

*Special Stars- Robert Conrad, Ross Martin, Michael Dunn, Susan Oliver, Anthony Caruso

*Theme- The genius of Dr. Loveless and his legacy has to be saved by the Secret Service.

*Trivia/location/goofs- Original air date: 9-29-67. Haynes City CA frontier town plot location. Dr. Leibknicht means "love-not". Leather medical restrains during the operating room scene holding West split on camera BEFORE the knife is applied to cut them. In the Dr. Loveless coffin funeral scene, the gold key moved it position from wrist to waist.

*Emotion- Essentially a "good guy VS bad guys" episode but made very fun & interesting based on the acting talents & role of Dr. Loveless. Mr. Caruso's outlaw character is sadly forgettable. But, Mr. Martin's many undercover characters(French Doctor and etc.) make this episode entertaining and worth a fun look also. The plot device of using a talking parrot and agent West not being more suspicious after seeing 'The Uncle' is hugely unbelievable for the viewer and goes against the efficient secret agent's instincts of the super hero lead role in this carefully designed series.
