Opera Brings More Ladies To Secret Service
DKosty12317 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is a solid episode. The plot is not as large as some, though it seems the Italian Opera star Rosa Montebello is critical to US -Italy relations. She is going to New Orleans to perform Lucia, in the opera house. Meanwhile there are a group of people headed by a mysterious masked person who want to kidnap Rosa.

I had a crush on Angelique and because of this episode remember her years later when she was in The Bucket List. There are 3 or 4 major beauties in this one and all of them get into scenes. The train and the house used for many shows are here too. Seems like every time we are set in New Orleans these sets are always used. Everything looks good.

The stunt sequences for West are solid with one of the few times that the minstrel song "Buffalo Gal" is ever on a television show. It is used neatly in a stunt sequence. Ross Martin gets not just 2 roles, but more acting in this one than usual. Conrad gets stunts and just a little acting with Artie in this one, and a woman on his arm at the end.

The plot centers around a tragic accident that happened to an opera singer and her memory which has created the Lucia society. Of course the twist is why the society. Being a season 4 show, the stunts are toned down a bit but still pretty solid. Just exactly what a West fan is looking for, entertaining including a song from the lovely Angelique, and culture moments, plus that haunting portrait of Mason.

Another great Hollywood horror classic revisited....
searchanddestroy-18 April 2019
This amazing show has made many tributes to the Hollywood classics all over the four seasons: FRANKENSTEIN, WOLF MAN, LIVING DEAD, HAUNTED MANSIONS, HOUND OF BASKERVILLE - concerning the next episode - 20000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, WAR OF THE WORLDS, KING KONG, INVISIBLE MAN, INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, etc....So it is obvious that the Gaston Leroux masterpiece, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, had to be evoked too. Only DRACULA was not spoken about. This episode is not for sissies at all, despite the title. OK, you have a diva and songs, but also pretty good fist fights, incuding the one between Jim West and four goons, in a little one way street, whilst a goon plays banjo....Outstanding.

James West meets the Phantom of the Opera. Artemus Gordon steals the show and gets the girl.
FloridaFred6 June 2022
A rather bizarre story about Opera Divas who have disappeared or died over the past 5 years. This show is dominated by three women. We also see the return of Artemus Gordon (who had missed a number of episodes, due to a real-life heart attack).

Good fist fights by Robert Conrad, although the scene with the trap door in the floor is obviously choreographed and staged.

Artemus Gordon steals the show. And in a rare twist, Artie gets the girl at the end of the show (but James West is not left out completely; as the show closes, West is sharing a drink with the attractive Patricia Dunne).

Return on Arte
marsnook200722 May 2020
In the beginning of the Episode when Jim got on the Train and went over to Arte he mentions what the Woman was doing in Arte's Car. They should have had him say what was that Woman doing in their Car. I know Jim was glad Arte was back from the way they greeted each other.

It was a disappointment when CBS cancelled the show it could have gone for more Seasons if it wasn't for that Women's Movement that thought the show was too violent. They never cancelled Gunsmoke or Bonanza who had the same amount of fights and gun play. They would go out of their minds with the Violence on TV today.

Could have been better with just one change...

Warning: Spoilers
It makes no sense that it's obviously a man playing Caroline Mason up until the end. A woman with a lower voice register could have certainly played this and made the twist all the more interesting. Also if the character's vocal cords were damaged during a fire, it's pretty certain that her face would have been also, just like the Phantom of the Opera.
