An Angry Eddie
JordanThomasHall5 April 2019
Eddie works hard to make his dad feel he is big enough to have a horse. He's even borrowed clothes from his smaller friend Billy Gerber to make it seem like he's grown out of his. Tom and Mrs. Livingston catch on to the act and his father says he's too young for a horse. Tom feels bad for his decision, sounding out his reasons to Norman as he drives him to the airport. While Tom is away on business, Norman acts upon their talk. Tom said if he could afford the horse he would be tempted, and Norman feels Tom was suggesting Norman can spare the expense for Eddie. Norman, with Tina's assistance, buys a horse to surprise Tom on his return. When Norman sees Eddie still upset about the horse he tells him that he got him a horse. Mrs. Livingston says it is a mistake. Tom arrives to be upset by the news. He says no again, and Eddie angrily runs to his room. Tom chastises Norman and Tina for interfering and they realize they did wrong. Tom is unable to reason with his son, and he now wants to do everything with Norman instead. It's the first time Eddie has been deeply angry with his dad- and Tom wants to impart a lesson that it is okay and doesn't jeopardize their love for one another. Also, that it is alright to prefer someone's company other than his. Norman is nervous to attempt a pivotal role in a pivotal lesson.

Moral: Being mad at a loved one doesn't mean you don't love them. "Anger isn't a bad thing...(it isn't good)...it just is. The important thing to remember is not to do things when you feel hate. Try just to do things when you feel love."

A good lesson on how to handle a situation every parent inevitably faces. Also, while Norman has been established as a regular for some time now, I think he has finally settled into a nice role. He's a solid sounding board for Tom's judgements, while his carefree attitude exposes Eddie to a different aspect of handling life. Norman's sarcastic wit is a nice source of comedy as well.
