Chief Goremongral's Movie Review: Night Feeders
ChiefGoreMongral8 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Aliens...you gotta love'em. They account for quite a bit of the horror movies we see. Alien,Predator,The Thing, Mac and Me...... you know real horror. Im a creature feature fan..guilty as charged but for the most part the creature feature list has not been very high until recently, which Im grateful of. One movie I had been keep my eye on was a movie called "The Feeding" which then changed its name to the movie Im doing my review on today "Night Feeders".

Night Feeders starts us off with some very unconvincing CGI effect sequence of a meteorite and a satellite in space. The meteorite ends up heading towards earth smashing into a small country area with hardly any civilians in site. After a brief sequence of people seeing it land and some people getting killed by the "somethings" from the meteorite we then get to our main story.

4 Guys on a hunting trip to this location find themselves not alone as the beasties try to kill them one by one. The movie has a running time of 85 minutes but if you cut out the credits at the end its more like 75 to 80 minutes which does not leave a lot of room for character development but they do a rather decent job for the limited time to get us to know the characters. However a rocket scientist you do not have to be to figure out the characters and what they are about.

The creatures and gore are what these movies are about and unfortunately things could have been better. The gore on display is OK but it really is more aftermath footage as oppose to actually seeing an arm or head being ripped off or a person being eaten by the creatures. Speaking of creatures remember I said there was a crappy CGI shot in the beginning, well we get a heavy dose of it in the creatures in the movie. Man are they bad!!! I mean Sci-Fi Channel Movie bad!!! I mean Playstation 1 bad!!! However when they are kept in the dark and in silhouettes they are rather effective.

If you can overlook the bad CGI and the sometimes annoying dialog this movie is not all that bad. It was entertaining and though I hated those effects (guys, next time man in suit, stop motion or puppets animatronic or otherwise) the movie really did hit all cylinders in the middle act. The ending was adequate and what I expected but I would have liked to seen how "The Boys" took care of business.

Anyway in conclusion Night Feeders is not a stinker and not a winner it floats in that average rating area. Kudos go to the story as it is quick and gets to the action as well as entertains but those crappy CGI effects and better gore sequences would have rose this to at least a cult worthy film. Take it for what it is though,a low budget sci-fi horror movie, and you will probably enjoy yourself more than most. If low budget horror is not your bag....SKIP THIS!!! 5/10: Average, nothing garbage (except the CGI) nothing great but fans of monsters and old school horror may enjoy themselves just keep your expectations low.

Cute Z-grade feature
Samiam311 June 2010
Techincally speaking, Night Feeders is about as cheap as they come. It has all the trade marks of a Z-grade feature, starting with the obvious, it is a video production (film would've been too expensive). In the end quality doesn't matter so long the film is entertaining. As it happens Night Feeders is one of those rare cases of a Z-grade feature that delivers what it intends to; extreme campy entertainment.

Movies of this sort are always too cheap to be taken seriously. Some movies embrace that and are played for laughs, like Evil Aliens or Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Night Feeders has a few good lines, and parts of it are pretty chirpy, but it is not a comedy. The movie presents four quirky rednecks who find them selves up against little green men. In horror films, I am used to seeing a mean spirited portrayal of South Eastern Americans (see Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or House of 1000 Corpses, among others). These guys, though they don't amount to anything thicker than cardboard, are not as unlikeable, and for an eighty minute feature (which is short) Night Feeders spends an appropriate amount of time with them before getting to the point.

Director Jet Ellors biggest mistake is his over confidence in his special effects crew. For about fifty minutes, Ellor is smart enough to keep the little men reduced to haloed silhouettes in the undergrowth but he cannot maintain this subtlety, and eventually, one of these guys steps into the light, and what we see is something that looks like it was generated using the same equipment that constructed the light cycle sequence for Tron thirty years ago.

Night Feeders runs out of steam in the last twenty minutes, and I found myself quickly loosing interest, what little climax there is is not very good. In the end, the movie entertained me, and if anything, it increases my understanding of Z-grade features. There is nothing really to understand other than, they are made mostly for fun and then the makers hope that the product will find it's way to a minor film festival or that the sponsors will offer more money for the next project.

Rednecks vs. aliens, pretty entertaining....
merklekranz20 October 2007
Rednecks and friends encounter aliens delivered to Earth by way of a meteorite that happens to land in a North Carolina pond. The diminutive splash caused by the falling space rock, looks more like a pebble being thrown into the water for the effect, but what the heck it is a low budget movie. The acting, locations, dialog, and character development, are above average considering the obvious monetary constraints. The aliens are hidden in darkness most of the time and that negates to a certain extant whatever flaws they may have. I thoroughly enjoyed "Night Feeders" for it's interesting story, well placed humor, and production quality from what was obviously a very limited budget. - MERK

I'm impressed

This was actually pretty darn entertaining. It's biggest downfall was the cgi. If they had the budget for practical effects it would be great the effects that were practical were great.

They're around. Not just as hungry.

Warning: Spoilers
Four would-be deer hunters in North Carolina are irritated by alien "Night Feeders" who don't like light and look a bit like Gollum in the few scenes they are shown. The film has some comedy banter lead by Brett Gentile who acted like Paul Giamatti. Outside of their performances, the film was fair.

No swearing sex or nudity.

Dumb but fun
peterscampbell19 June 2019
We really expected this one too be a dud at first with the cheesy fx and the stereotypical rednecks, but, despite the lack of budget and acting skills, it had more good jump scares than it had a right to and it kept us entertained to the end.

Good fun horror flick
cr460012 January 2007
This movie was as good as or better than a lot of horror movies with huge budgets. I would recommend it to anyone who likes sci-fi or the x-files. Definitely worth checking out. The aliens are pretty creepy and the main characters of the film are great hillbillies, being from North Carolina, I can tell a real hick when I see one. These guys were funny and authentic. There was some pretty good gore and lots of blood, always a good sign for a horror movie. I would say it was just as good as the Grudge or some of the other recent horror movies that have been very disappointing in the way of how scary they are. Give this movie a chance and you'll be glad you did.

Night Feeders
jski3731 December 2006
I have to say for a low budget film this was very well made. The actors were great in there roles and played the parts well with a touch of humor. Not many people like a humorous horror flick , but I found this to be quite humorous for a horror flick , but not so much so that it took away from the actual script of being a horror flick. So if you like a touch of humor and horror combined I do recommend watching this show. I gave it a 10 because, for low budget the plot and graphics were well done as well as the acting. The ending was perfect also , gave just enough to make ya wonder... OK is there gonna be a part 2 eh :-) way to go guys good job. ^*^

Warning: Spoilers
Reminisce of a Sunday afternoon sci-fi channel special NIGHT FEEDERS tells the tale of a small redneck town going through the motions; arguing with their wives over whether he should fix the car or her TV. He chooses the television to fix first if he values eating, according to her….Amidst all the hillbilly love a meteor has fallen from the skies and landed in the small one horse town. Doing what seems to be a normal occurrence for them a group of deliverance like guys head off into the woods for a little "R and R", but what they don't expect is the meteor that has landed on the town has brought someone with it…. Will the visitors overtake their town or will it be "Carolina BBQ at its finest"? NIGHT FEEDERS was a nice change of pace of a nightly movie viewing experience. Director Jet Eller put forth a lot of devotion and effort into making NIGHT FEEDERS one of the few independent sci-fi films to actually be worth while. There have been so many floating around that just do no justice for those involved. NIGHT FEEDRS is no such case. Sitting here typing up this review I honestly cant think of anything that bothered me about this film….The story was top notch and I must make note of how well Eller achieved in keeping me entertained throughout the film with his unique style of story telling. And I'd be a fool to not mention the performance of the acting, which surpasses that of a norm indie film. I thought there was a nice array of characters herein to make this a highly enjoyable movie. The performance of Donnie Evans was my favorite part of this movie. At one point he was trying to light the campfire and flamed it up to high grazing his face, asking "are my eyebrows still there??" Lines such as that throughout the film really added a different kind of vibe to this film making this one of my favorite Sci-Fi films ever seen. Kudos go out to Jet Eller and the amazing cast , led by Evans. Thanks guys; and it's Texas BBQ at its finest!!!!!!…….

The Real Hero
pooja_devi_jai14 December 2007
This movie was cool, but the part where it comes to who will survive.. should have been Andy(Mike Monzitta) cause he was the most heroic one with that much guts.. if he would'v been the hero.. this movie would not have been lowly rated.

He should have been the hero. And when it came for him to die and get eaten...the unwanted pathetic scene was disgusting well his death scene should not have been that bad keeping in mind his courage and guts and his heroic looks , just not cool.. i would more likely love to conclude that Mike Monzitta is also a perfect actor and he should be taken in more movies by directors..

10/10 Stars for this great entertaining movie

Warning: Spoilers
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was very nice not to see profanity or nudity in this film. However, I did enjoy the humor side of it. I thought the actors were fantastic. And with no profanity or nudity is a welcome change and very believable. The main actor/character, Donnie Evans/Donnie was so likeable. I am happy he survived and has a new female friend. Even a little romance in this movie. What's not to like. I particularly loved the ending where Donnie got his gang of friends with rifles and going back to kill the aliens who killed his friends. This film actually did have a happy ending. I look for more movies/films from Jet Elder.

Hunting For Bipedal Snacks...
azathothpwiggins29 May 2022
NIGHT FEEDERS is a real shocker. No, not because it's unbelievably terrifying, but because it's good in spite of having no discernable budget. Its strongest asset is the cast, who come across as genuine and actually seem to care about each other. Also, it's not at all clear who will survive. Some of the deaths are a complete surprise!

While the CGI is certainly low-grade, it somehow adds to the otherworldliness of the carnivorous creatures. Most of whatever money there was had to have gone into the gore effects, as they're quite well-realized.

This movie deserves a devoted cult following at the very least...
