The pros and cons of hypnotism.
Sleepin_Dragon6 July 2023
Doctor Corder deals with two separate cases, young mother Doreen Stokes has failed to accept her newborn, Fay Bridges is keen to escape her marriage. The link in both cases, hypnotism.

This first series has been so enjoyable so far, there has been real quality in every episode, this is another very, very good episode. Audiences must have found this show so original, so different.

Once again there's evidence of this show dealing with themes that weren't commonplace in 1963, this time it's hypnotherapy, Doctor Corder truly is a man of many talents.

The bulk of it deals with Doreen, and her story is intriguing, I would have liked more focus on Fay, it was a very intriguing story, those opening sequences were excellent.

Fancy calling her Veronica.

The best element of this episode, Roger Delgado, seeing him sat in prison took me straight back to Doctor Who's 'The Sea Devils,' he was a truly incredible actor, perhaps the best guest performance so far, I could firmly believe in him operating as a Hypnotist.

Was Doctor Corder acting ethically towards Doreen? One wonders if she knew what she was signing up to.

8/10.

The Two Edged Sword

Dr Corder looks at two cases. Doreen Stokes is a young mother who has rejected her baby.

She refuses to see the baby and wants it adopted.

Meanwhile Fay Bridges is unhappy with her husband's state of mind and wants out of the marriage.

Corder uses hypnotism to find out what happened to Doreen as a youngster when her infant brother died.

As for Fay. Her prospective in laws took her to see a quack hypnotist who made her get married. Her husband was a paranoic.

This is a story that looks at both sides of hypnotism.

It contains a mesmerising performance from Roger Delgado as the quack hypnotist. I wonder if the producer of Doctor Who watched this story.
