Ross is ignored at the dinner table while talking about his little league baseball tryouts. He goes to his room depressed. Patty is supportive and informs the family who are also concerned and take a determined interest in his quest to make the team. Coach Johnson (John Randolph, "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation") eliminates all pitchers but Ross and Billy Bishop, who Ross is sure will get the spot. Patty convinces Natalie to invite Coach Johnson to dinner, giving depth to Ross' consideration. Martin, who had been away on business, arrives a day early to impart his stance.
