Goodbye, TV's Frank!
ericstevenson2 July 2016
When hearing about this episode, I admitted that I was surprised that TV's Frank didn't leave at the very end, but instead left in the middle of the show! Don't worry, we got to see more of him at the very end. As a show that generally didn't have an ongoing story, it was great to see how they handled a real change in the show's history. TV's Frank was one of the longest running cast members of this show, although he would later appear in the episode "Soultaker". Anyway, I really did feel bad for Dr. Forrester. It's actually kind of nice because he gets to Second Banana Heaven with the other sidekicks. I guess it makes sense in the show on why there are so many fictional characters that appear. They're fictional characters themselves!

Anyway, the actual movie riffing was great too. It was weird, because it wasn't really until the very end that things really got downright hilarious. It was funny throughout the whole thing, but the climax of the film set up the climax of the jokes too. I just love when they're about to take off his mask, the Sun comes up and Tom says, "Wow, he must be ugly". I also loved, "Panty raid! Just kidding of course! I'm going to burn you all to death" or "Authorities suspect arson" and "I decided not to burn this one". The best one earlier was probably, "Can you imagine the huge apocalyptic grease fire if they put Rush Limbaugh in there?". It's hard to believe that guy is still relevant after twenty years! ****

Farewell TV's Frank
hellraiser72 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Warning do not read unless seen episode.

This episode is another honorable mention, really like the film they riffed which is one of the volumes of the El Santo series. That series in a way you can say predates a lot of the pulp hero protagonists like "Blade" and "Dr. Strange" who always dealt and fought with things from the supernatural realm.

The riffs are good and memorable mainly by the second and third half where things pick up more. Really like the reaction once El Santo first shows up in the film, yeah if I ever saw him walking with that outfit in public, even I'd have trouble taking him seriously. The Vamp Women as nice looking as they are, are kind of incompetent as one plan after another fails so easily, let alone their motives are never drawn out, nor make a lot of sense.

Or even in some of the wresting segments which were probably one of the only best things about the film, El Santo is a wrestler after all. But those segments were even funny with all of what the guy's said. The hilarious part was in the final part of the film which to me has not just the lamest final conflicts ever but the lamest and stupidest resolutions ever.

The host segments are good as usual, but the ones that really stand out are from Dr. Forester and TV's Frank. I'll admit it came as a surprise once Togo came in an angelic form and talked about Frank condition, seeing that I though OMG Frank's dead. I had a bad feeling all that Chinese food would do him in as it was an unhealthy amount, but still I honestly never saw it coming nor thought it would, but it did. We even Things like this just remind us how mortal the characters from MST3K truly are. Really love the song Forester sings which is one of my favorites, despite how twisted it sounds, it's also strangely touching almost made me a little misty eyed.

So, farewell TV's Frank, you may have been a chowder head and were playing on the wrong end of the field, but you heart was always on the right end of the field. Which is part of why you always brought joy and life to Dr. Forester's lab and twisted existence, even brought some joy to the satellite of love fun. That's why we're all going to miss you, but we at least know your in a better place now.

Rating: 4 stars.
