Mr Burns has a near death experience and realises he needs a heir to inherit his money.

This is an enjoyable episode with some good character moments.

I always enjoy episodes that involve Mr Burns as I find him a very entertaining character who the writers use effectively to make evilness funny. This is a solid example of how they use the character well in conjunction with the Simpson family.

Bart and Homer both have strong moments, with Homer imparting some hilariously awful advice to Bart regarding failures in life. Other supporting characters like Smithers, Lionel Hutz, and Nelson Muntz are also used to good effect.

For me it's a 7.5/10 but so round upwards.

He Had It All

Bart has a golden opportunity. Burns is looking for an heir and he ends up with the nastiest kid imaginable. That would be our friend Bart. We end up finding out more and more about Burns along the way and Bart must become just like him. But as tempting as all the goodies are, he finally realizes he can't lose his family. There's a funny homage to "A Christmas Carol." Also, an acting family copies the Simpsons.

Mr Burns feat. Bart

Warning: Spoilers
Well, I can imagine that Smithers was rather unimpressed (to put it mildly) that he didn't get to be Mr Burns's heir, and so guess what, Mr Burns focuses on Bart to be his heir, and we wonder if Bart will succumb to this, even though ironically Mr Burns constantly forget the name of Bart's father, even though he works at the nuclear power plant init.

Anyway, I'm enjoying reflecting on the golden era of The Simpsons, especially as I became an instant fan when the series debuted all those years ago, and for me in my humble opinion the golden era is the first 10 seasons pretty much so worth watching.

Burns' Heir

Warning: Spoilers
Burns' Heir is an extremely weak episode, with only two humorous moments. Mr. Burns not leaving his wealth to Smithers, his reward being buried alive with him, heh and Lisa acting like Bart to fill the void. The rest just doesn't work at all.
