The puppets of fear
lor_16 July 2023
International saboteurs, aided by a corrupt World Army soldier, are attempting to halt a key Kachunga tunnel project which relies upon U-114 liquid explosives. Joe is given brain pattern transfer from two experts to equip him for the job of protecting an overland explosives shipment.

Humor is derived from a couple of thick-British regional accents soldiers forced to report to 9-year-old Joe as a martinet of a colonel, ordering them around. Pure wish-fulfillment as we watch the kid bossing adults around with impunity.

The Andersns' filmmakers have clearly seen and appreciated the classic thriller "The Wages of Fear" in concoction this episode -the dangerous explosives on the trucks will explode if they take it above a certain elevation, and the bumpy roads add to the suspense.

Main surprise is that one of the two soldiers under Joe's command is killed, as part of ratcheting up the overall danger they're facing, hardly suitable content for a kiddie show. However, Joe's heroism and expertise gives young viewers something to cheer about, while watching quality models in action.
